DIY Pumpkin Pallet Sign

September 18, 2018 by Jen 7 Comments

After moving into our new home earlier this year I have been so much more interested in decorating and fun home projects to fix it all up.  I got the idea for making this DIY Pumpkin Pallet Sign from the blog Fresh Vintage By Lisa.  I thought to myself, this is something I could actually do!!  So often DIY projects take up more time, or tools, than I have.  I didn’t have access to pallet boards to put together my own sign, but I did find some unfinished pallet board signs at Hobby Lobby that made it nice and easy and they had the rope already attached so I could just hang it right up.  I used my 40% off coupon because it happened to fall on a week that pallet board signs were not on sale, but seriously I think the stuff there goes on sale every other week!  I chose a pallet size that was roughly almost 20in X 20in.

What you will need:

Pallet board that you put together or an unfinished pallet sign from a craft store like Hobby Lobby.

Felt pumpkin from Dollar Tree.  I was there yesterday and they still have them.  They are in the decor section and I think they are actually placemats.  You will use this as your template.

White flat or chalk spray paint

Tape

Optional: sandpaper.  If your pallet boards are pretty rough to start with you may want to smooth it out a little first.  Mine from Hobby Lobby was not.  After I spray painted it I did take a really fine grain sand paper to the corners and edges.

Since my pallet board was not very rough I took some tape to secure my pumpkin in place and keep it all centered and even.

Then I took it out back and put it on a tarp for spray painting.

I just did light stokes back and forth because I still wanted some of the wood grain to show up underneath the paint and not have it solid white.   Remove your pumpkin and then let it dry and take some sandpaper to the edges if you want.

Such a simple and cute craft!

You could also just lean this up against any wall, fireplace, or porch!

Happy “fall” and enjoy all the fun seasonal decorating!
