If you follow me on Instagram I recently shared in my stories about an orange sugar body scrub I was working on. I have been using it all week and have been loving it! It has totally helped my skin that can be so dry this time of year. Sugar scrubs are so easy to make as you probably even have the basic ingredients on hand. They are basically oil (in this case coconut oil) and sugar! Then to give it a great smell I added orange zest and orange essential oil!
When using coconut oil you must use an unrefined coconut oil….why??… because you want it to actually smell like coconuts! I would also recommend organic because you are going to be rubbing it all over your skin and your skin absorbs everything. I use this brand right here (affiliate link). It comes in a great big tub and I use it for both my cooking and DIY beauty products. So totally worth it! And so yes because this is totally food safe you can definitely sample your sugar scrub after mixing it up. I might have just done that?!?!
This scrub is perfect for this time of year with its combo tropical and orange smell and it also scrubs on beautifully and leaves your skin so soft. Makes me think of being on vacation! Orange essential oil can also create a natural relaxed feeling and act as a mood lifter. Just make sure that when using essential oils internally or topically you are using a pure 100% therapeutic grade oil. You don’t want to be using something that is full of fillers and most things from the grocery store are even if they say organic or pure. Kind of scary! I totally trust Young Living with their Seed to Seal promise that I am getting the 100% pure oil! So here is what you need to get started!
Measure out your coconut oil and put it in the bowl of your mixer. If it’s in its liquid form put it in the refrigerator to firm up a little first. With the whisk attachment whip it all up…whip it good….until it is light and fluffy. (Okay totally thinking of the 80’s song.) Next zest one orange (thoroughly wash and dry it first). If you don’t have one of these then you need to click over to Amazon right now and get one. It is probably one of my favorite kitchen gadgets! You will thank me later when zesting anything and how easy it works! They come in a bunch of fun colors too and somehow I missed that when ordering mine. I think I was just so excited to be getting one!
To your whipped up coconut oil add your sugar, orange zest, and orange essential oil and mix.
Then divide your scrub out into mason jars. I used 4 ounce jars and I love these ones with white lids when making DIY beauty products. You will get about 2-3 (4oz) jars from this recipe. That depends on how full you stuff the jar.
To use this keep your jar in the shower but be careful because it is glass. At the end of your shower but before you turn off the water, slather this on all over and then rinse! Your skin will love you!
This can make a great gift idea for the Mothers in your life!
