Having a fairly large family we go through hand soap really quickly around here. Not wanting to compromise and buy super cheap stuff that is full of SLS, parabens, and artificial fragrance, I have now found a way to make my own!
I was using the Young Living Thieves hand soap for a while, which I love, but we couldn’t even make it through the month around here without running out, and I was even buying the big refill bottle. I love the smell of the Thieves Hand soap so I wanted to see if I could recreate it as best as I could. It seriously smells like fall and Christmas time! I tried it out using Dr Bronner’s Castile Soap, Vitamin E Oil and my Thieves Household cleaner, which is super concentrated and a little goes a long way so it is totally cost-effective. I added all the ingredients to a foaming pump, then filled it up the rest of the way with filtered water and voila! Foaming hand soap! I love that I am still getting my favorite Thieves smell for a fraction of the cost! And whenever anyone’s soap bottle is empty it is so easy to add in the ingredients and make some more!!
I love the Thieves Household Cleaner for also cleaning the rest of my house…it seriously works on everything and also makes a great jewelry cleaner! Did I mention too that it is totally safe and non-toxic and each bottle lasts me for at least 6 months! If you don’t have the Thieves cleaner you can totally substitute that with about 8-10 drops of your favorite essential oil. Lavender would be a good choice. I would just avoid using any citrus oils if making your soap in a plastic bottle as citrus oils can actually leach toxins out from your plastic bottles. Also since you are using these oils on your hands make sure you go with a good quality 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oil. Most of the ones found at the stores have fillers and only have to be 10% organic to have that organic label slapped on it. I choose to use Young Living with their seed to seal promise and can trust I am getting the 100% real deal! If you want any more info on getting started with Young Living leave me a comment!
I hope you all have a great weekend and here is your printable recipe!
- 4-5 tablespoons Dr. Bronner's liquid Castile Soap
- ½-1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
- 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner or 8-10 drops of your favorite essential oil
- Distilled or filtered water
- Add your Castile soap, Vitamin E oil, and Thieves cleaner (or essential oils) to your foaming soap pump. Top with filtered or distilled water and shake.
